In 2023, Amanda Roelle used her Urban Sketchers Reportage Grant to document the plight of the olive trees in Southern Italy. They are dying from xylella fastidiosa, an incurable disease devastating the region’s olive groves. While she spread the word to local farmers who were in denial, she didn't anticipate gaining confidence in her sketching and acquiring new skills that led to hosting groups to visit and learn about her beloved region of Italy.
