Jesus said to repent because the Kingdom of heaven was near.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 says that if we refuse to repent and continue practicing sin, then we will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
When we obey God after belief, acceptance, and repentance, this does nothing to cleanse us from our past sins. Only God’s grace and Jesus’ sacrifice cleanses us.
We must accept God’s grace and seek to obey Him going forward.
