In this video, I'll be repairing / restringing a beaded necklace. It's made with Czech seed beads and juniper berry beads (sometimes referred to as Navajo ghost beads) that I made. As a young girl, I lived for a long time near the Navajo Nation. Many of my best friends were members of that great tribe. Their beautiful artwork, in all its forms, speaks to my heart and somehow helps me feel a little closer to the spirit of my dad now that he has passed into the next life. I don’t feel like the juniper berries I've made into beads can truly be considered “Navajo ghost beads,” since I am not a Navajo. But for me, like other art forms, they represent the gratitude I feel for the art and skills of the Navajo people, and a closeness to my dad.
