Heavy equipment is moving into Beaver Canyon this week as the Utah Department of Transportation begins emergency work to restore temporary access along SR-153, which was severely damaged by flooding after the Cottonwood Fire earlier this summer.
UDOT gave its contractor notice to proceed Monday, launching what officials said would be an extensive effort to stabilize SR-153 before winter weather makes additional work impossible.
“They’re hauling in excavators and big dump trucks and all sorts of heavy equipment that’s going to be needed to start cleaning up the canyon,” said Devin Squire, UDOT’s project manager over that part of the state.
