Gov. Kathy Hochul’s new law bars New York counties from helping ICE with certain immigration enforcement through local police and jails.

The Local Cops, Local Crimes Act prohibits counties across the state from entering or keeping 287(g) agreements with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Those agreements allow local police to carry out certain immigration duties on behalf of ICE.
