Accused of murder, Nell Jackson finds herself forced to live on plunder and expedients with her two sisters. Helped by a brave spirit named Billy Blind, she realises that fate has not led her astray by chance as she navigates war-torn Europe.
This VFX breakdown showcases the incredible work delivered by Dupe VFX for Renegade Nell. Across all eight episodes, the team created over 338 high-quality VFX shots and 8 CG assets — ranging from magical creatures to realistic environmental effects.
Dupe VFX supported the production with technical pre-visualization, on-set supervision, compositing, FX simulations, face replacements, and detailed CG enhancements. A major focus was on bringing the character Billy Blind to life. VFX Supervisor Peter Eszenyi collaborated with Gary Brown, Adam Jenkins (1st AD for VFX), and Dan Stafford-Clark (DoP for VFX) to plan and shoot complex sequences — including Billy’s flight scenes, captured using a robotic arm with Robo Moco.
Throughout production, the team adapted Billy's flight motion to suit each scene. In post, the compositing team added wings based on real-world research into wing structure, movement, and color dynamics — creating a believable sense of flight. Additional elements like light trails, shrinking effects, dust, and smoke were layered in to amplify magical and action-heavy moments.
