28 Years Later: The Bone Temple continues the iconic franchise that began with 28 Days Later. In the film, Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) makes a discovery that could change the world, while Spike (Alfie Williams) faces a terrifying encounter with Jimmy Crystal (Jack O'Connell). In this brutal world, the infected are not the only threat—sometimes the survivors themselves are even more dangerous.
Union VFX delivered around 380 VFX shots for the film, helping bring to life a devastated world still suffering from the Rage Virus.
The opening sequence heavily relies on visual effects, including digital ageing of environments, detailed blood and gore effects, and weapon enhancements during a brutal fight scene inside an abandoned leisure centre. Filmed in a derelict water park location, the sequence also features extensive environment work such as moss, dirt, and decay added across the set.
Union VFX also created large digital environment extensions for the Bradford location, adding surrounding buildings, abandoned vehicles, and distant cityscapes to enhance the post-apocalyptic setting.
Additional work throughout the film includes set extensions, infected character effects, burning-man head replacements, bird murmurations, weapon enhancements, and large-scale environment VFX.
