Yes, you can remove the background in Blender, but often we don't want to get rid of shadows. That's where a "shadow catcher" in Blender comes in. A transparent piece of geometry to "catch" your shadows. We want to render the shadow, but not the geometry.

Luckily, Blender makes rendering shadows without the background easy for us.
