Peter Cullen was more than the voice of Optimus Prime to me.
I was a little boy in the 80s who loved Transformers. Then I lost my father, and less than a year later I watched Optimus Prime die. At that age, it felt like losing another hero.
As I grew older, I understood why Optimus stayed with me. He was strong, but gentle. Powerful, but compassionate. He protected others and led with honor.
Peter Cullen gave Optimus more than a voice. He gave him a soul.
And through that character, he helped shape the kind of man I wanted to become.
“Be strong enough to be gentle.”
