Well hello there, and welcome to the wonderful world of ballet!
Let's start with some definitions:

🔹 Rises
In ballet, a rise is when you lift your heels off the ground while standing on the balls of your feet. Rises are controlled and require a lot of strength, they are often used in adagios and transition combinations and can be done in different directions and at different tempo.

🔹 Relevé
This term comes from the French word "relever," which means "to rise again. It's a fundamental movement that's used in many ballet steps, including pirouettes and jumps. This is another term for lifting your heels off the ground while standing on the ball of the foot. It always starts with a plie and finishes with a plie and it's typically used to describe a series of quick, small lifts that dancers do while standing on one or two feet.

Now, to get technical, there are three phases to a relevé or a rise:

1️⃣ Demi-plié
This is when you bend your knees slightly while keeping your heels on the ground. It helps you prepare for the lift and gives you a strong foundation.

2️⃣ Relevé
Next, you straighten your legs and lift your heels off the ground. You should feel a stretch in your calves and the muscles in the front of your ankles working hard to hold your weight.

3️⃣ Lowering
Finally, you lower your heels back down to the ground while maintaining control and stability. This phase is just as important as the lift itself, as it helps you develop control and balance.
