Sauté is a French term that means "to jump," so when we're talking about sauté in ballet, we're talking about a jump.

🔸 In first position, sauté involves jumping straight up from a closed position where your heels are touching and your toes are turned out to the sides. As you jump, your legs straighten and your feet come off the floor. You should try to land softly on the balls of your feet with your heels lowered.

🔸 In second position, sauté is similar, but your feet are now in a wider stance, with your toes turned out to the sides. As you jump, your legs straighten and your feet come off the floor, again aiming to land softly on the balls of your feet with your heels lowered.

To execute a sauté in either position:
1️⃣ you want to start in a demi-plié, which is a half-bend of the knees
2️⃣ then, push off the floor with both feet, straightening your legs and pointing your toes as you jump.
⚠️ Make sure to keep your core engaged and your back straight.

Don't worry if your sautés aren't perfect at first.
Even professional dancers sometimes struggle with jumps. It takes time and practice to build the strength and technique necessary for a beautiful sauté. So, keep practicing and don't be too hard on yourself. And remember, ballet is supposed to be fun!

So, enjoy the process, laugh when you mess up, and keep on dancing! 💕
