On April 12th, 2023, more than 25 inches of rain overwhelmed Fort Lauderdale in less than twelve hours—a catastrophic, 1,000-year storm event. Floodwaters invaded neighbourhoods and inundated City Hall, forcing its eventual demolition and leaving the city’s administrative heart a total loss.
But crisis breeds opportunity. Instead of simply rebuilding what was lost, the City Commission and the Public Works Department launched an unprecedented mission: to completely transform Fort Lauderdale’s critical infrastructure from the ground up.
