Abstract: Recently, we have shown that regular black holes arise as the unique spherically symmetric solutions of broad classes of gravitational theories consisting of Einstein gravity supplemented by resummations of infinite towers of higher-curvature corrections. Within these models, such black holes form dynamically as a byproduct of the gravitational collapse of ordinary matter. In this talk, I will review the main results and lessons learned from this framework, and discuss numerous new directions and open problems the formalism is poised to tackle.

Title: ceff as a new invariant of 3-manifolds
Abstract: This talk reports on a recent progress towards understanding new structures in low-dimensional topology inspired by physics. Namely, we introduce and study numerical quantity ceff for a closed, oriented 3-manifold M. This has a physical interpretation as a rate of growth of supersymmetric states in gauge theory T[M] corresponding to M.
