![A day in the life: Celtic Studies! (Part 2)
What do we do all day in the School of Celtic Studies 🤔 [Part 2!] From reading, investigating connections between texts, translating, manuscript work, preparation for articles, seminars and conference papers: it’s hard to balance it all! 📚 But we still have time to do podcasts 👀🎙️ so listen to “Nà hansae”, the Research Podcast of the School of Celtic Studies in DIAS, to learn more about our work! 🎧 A day in the life: Celtic Studies! ![STP Board Meeting Talks - 5 December 2025
Speaker: Dmitry Noshchenko
Title: ceff as a new invariant of 3-manifolds
Abstract: This talk reports on a recent progress towards understanding new structures in low-dimensional topology inspired by physics. Namely, we introduce and study numerical quantity ceff for a closed, oriented 3-manifold M. This has a physical interpretation as a rate of growth of supersymmetric states in gauge theory T[M] corresponding to M. We test several conjectures related to T[M] and ceff for a class of integer homology 3-spheres. Based on arXiv:2508.10087.
