leokimvideo | Redback Roundup Pipe Spider Dangerous Weather & Ants Attack Spider EDUCATIONAL VIDEO @leokimvideo | Uploaded March 2022 | Updated October 2024, 1 week ago.
The Australian Sydney Summer of 2021 / 2022 has been cool and very wet. The normal dry hot Summer conditions have gone replaced with rainy humid and dangerous weather. The balance of nature has completely flipped in the backyard with the skinks, lizards and frogs getting the upper hand. It was near impossible to find a Redback spider until late February. The Redback Spider I found was being very sneaky living in a terracotta pipe. This spider was not setting up webs outside the pipe. I put an Arlo security camera inside the spiders home to see if the huge population of lizards were giving the spider a hard time. My suspicions about what's been going on get caught on camera. I also capture a really vicious moment when a Ant colony find a spider and it's taken out in very short time. It's just a reminder how in the critter world every day is one of huge dangers.
The extreme weather seen in this video was associated with a East Coast Lows (ECL). These are intense low pressure systems which occur, on average, several times each year off the eastern coast of Australia, in particular southern Queensland, NSW and eastern Victoria. Although they can occur at any time of the year, they are more common during autumn and winter with a maximum frequency in June. East Coast Lows will often intensify rapidly over a period of 12-24 hours making them one of the more dangerous weather systems to affect the eastern coast. East coast lows are also observed off the coast of Africa and America and are sometimes known as east coast cyclones.
Video posted as educational, documentary, and scientific and forms part of my Insect / spider study series of videos.
