Tiny paws, big cuteness! We have a behind-the-scenes peek of our red panda cubs for you! 😍
Seven-year-old red panda mom Udaya is behind the scenes with our three adorable additions while red panda dad Linus and big brother Anshu are out and about in their redeveloped habitat in Asian Highlands. Since they were born on June 8, you can see that these cubs have grown bigger and are becoming more active, rolling around and opening their eyes. We're ears over tails in love! 🥰
During this #NationalZookeeperWeek, we’re giving a shoutout to the incredible care our team gives to our red panda family. Over the past year as construction took place in their habitat, our dedicated Animal Care, Health & Welfare team worked hard to ensure our red pandas felt safe and comfortable during a change in their environment and routine. While staying in a back-of-house space, the team remained consistent with what they always do, no matter where red pandas are – crafting enrichments that kept them mentally and physically engaged to allow for the expression of natural behaviours.
With their care and comfort top of mind, they continued to express natural behaviours, including successful breeding, leading to the joyful birth of three cubs. During this time behind the scenes, the team has been closely monitoring Udaya, giving her a choice in nestboxes and supporting her nutrition as she nurses her cubs. We're thrilled to see Udaya continue to show her confidence as a mother and thrive under the care of her loving team. 🫶
