I collect the Ricco 6 Shine without pressing the A button, using only the Hover Nozzle.
Seven of the 8 red coins are just above the water and can be surfed into, but the 8th one is in mid-air. A solution to this would be to collect it before riding the Blooper Racer, but the Shine still spawns on the pier, which is unreachable 0x A while surfing. The solution to this is a glitch I discovered while trying to get onto the pier anyway (though I was probably not the first one to find out about it), and documented here: youtube.com/watch?v=nlB55EBZLeA
So I go surfing for the 7 red coins, crash the Blooper Racer, go get the remaining coin with the Hover Nozzle, then simply head back to the pier. But what’s with that “break” at the beginning? Well, I needed to give the Pianta some time to get closer to the tower, otherwise I couldn’t have hovered there.

I collect the Ricco 5 Shine without pressing the A button, using only the Spray and Hover Nozzles.
Bouncing on a nearby Pianta and hovering at the peak of the bounce gives me enough height to grab onto the ledge of a roof, from which I can hover to the fruit machine and reach the helipad. This Gooper Blooper fight is just as easy as the first; I spray Gooper Blooper’s face to make him attack with all four tentacles, dodge the attack while still spraying him, so that I can clean his mouth and grab it before the attack animation ends. For some reason, this causes him to stay idle as I pull his mouth back.

![Ricco Harbor 100 coins – 0x A Presses [S/H]
I collect the 100 coin Shine for Ricco Harbor without pressing the A button, using only the Spray and Hover Nozzles.
Once again, I use a boss battle for the 100 coin Shine. Ricco Harbor has around 130 coins, but many of them are in the sewers, and we can’t leave the sewers without the A button or the Rocket Nozzle. So I collect 70 coins in Ricco 1, then trigger the Gooper Blooper fight. It may not look like it, but this fight actually takes place in a different version of the map, where the plaza has extra coins, but all other coins have been removed. Fortunately, Bloopers and crates are still there, allowing me to get the remaining 30 coins.
In this Shine, avoiding the blue coins is actually a challenge itself. Like Shines and Nozzles, blue coins open a text box that allows you to save, and there is no way past that text box without A, even if you don’t want to save, and even if you don’t have a Memory Card in. So I need to make sure I don’t collect any blue coins, and 5 of them are in my way.
Another tricky part is the chainlink maze: hanging onto the ceiling is fine because I can let go with B, but if I get too close to a wall, I grab onto it, and then the only way to let go is using A, or reaching a floor (at the top or the bottom of the maze). This makes 4 of the coins there impossible to reach, as they are completely surrounded with walls below a ceiling and with no floor under them.
And then there’s the jellyfish. I don’t fully understand how to get it to push me out of the water, as you can see, but attempting this trick can also “break” the jellyfish, as shown in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWUCMO5jiqk Weird stuff, and I’m pretty glad I managed to get out of the water twice (the 98th coin falling into the water wasn’t exactly planned). Another way would be to swim below the Goop to the grate platform, but it’s pretty hard to do and may result in death. Or you could also just swim to the beginning of the level and use the slope to walk out of the water.

I collect the Bianco 4 Shine without pressing the A button, using only the Hover Nozzle.
While getting all 8 red coins is fairly easy, the Shine spawns on a platform that I thought was way out of reach. Usually the only ways off a tightrope are to jump off using A and to let go using B. The former is obviously not possible in an ABC context, and the latter just makes you drop straight down with no way to do anything until you land on the ground below.
However, this rope has Wire Traps that we can use to our advantage: jumping or falling onto them usually causes a fire bounce, and by swinging around the rope near one of them, we can trigger the same effect (though less consistently). The fire bounce gives Mario enough vertical momentum to make it onto the Shine platform.

I collect the Ricco 8 Shine without pressing the A button, using only the Spray, Hover and Rocket Nozzles.
The first step is getting the Rocket Nozzle, and from a specific Nozzle Box at that. Since I haven’t unlocked the Rocket Nozzle yet, I need to get to the highest box, and I do this by following the route I already used in Ricco 3 and 4. (In a full run, the Rocket Nozzle could be unlocked in either of those episodes for more convenient access in this one.)
Once I have the Rocket Nozzle, I use rocket storage to shoot to the coconut tree, then to the Shine platform with a coconut. Finally, I use the coconut to clip through the cage, and shoot a final rocket to grab the Shine. The clip was discovered by Goldfire.

I collect the Box Game 1 Shine without pressing the A button, using only the Hover Nozzle.
When Mario ground pounds a crate, he technically lands before the crate breaks. This sequence of events interrupts the ground pound and puts Mario in a falling state. I take advantage of this to save time by immediately hovering from one crate to the next without touching the ground.

Continuing the route from Ricco 3, I find a beam that lets me reach the top of the tower without A presses. I nearly died twice but it’s actually pretty easy to navigate this secret area, as the rotation of the platforms always lets you stand higher than the platform you want to dive onto. There are only two simple guidelines to follow: recover from each dive as soon as possible (otherwise you obviously end up sliding off) and always dive onto the rising side of a platform (because it gives you more time to recover).
