In this video I show you how to recreate the classic vocal‑chiff sound from Cutting Crew – (I Just) Died in Your Arms using the Korg Modwave.
The original patch was famously built on the Emulator II, but the Modwave’s sample engine and multilayer structure make it surprisingly close — especially when you shape the envelopes and layer the vocal samples just right.

This walkthrough is hardware‑first, with the editor on hand only when needed.
We build the sound from an initialized program, choose the right vocal samples, shape the envelopes for that signature transient, add a second pad‑like vocal layer, and finish with effects to get the lush 80s width.

If you enjoy these hardware‑only tutorials, let me know — I’m happy to make more.
