GoNorth Japan | Recon Mission to Mt. Mitsuishi | Bear Countermeasure Update @GoNorthJapan | Uploaded September 2020 | Updated October 2024, 15 hours ago.
Mt. Mitsuishi is an easy hike that I've seen elementary school kids doing (with family) - though of course I've seen enthusiastic parents bringing 10-year-olds up Mt. Iwate as well. (People are tough up here!) There are five main ways to access the summit: the Takinoue Hot Springs Trailhead, Amihari Okusando, Amihari Ski Resort (with or without the lift), Matsukawa Hot Springs, and Matsukawa Hot Springs via Gentagatake. (Technically you could also reach it via a long traverse from Akita or Mt. Iwate, but you'd intersect with one of the above-mentioned trails before you got there.) This time I took the shortest, easiest route since my main mission was just to check the progress of the fall colors.
