A recession is a period of the business cycle where economic activities are in general decline. This results in a drop in real GDP, a drop in real income, higher rates of unemployment, and a lack of manufacturing and retail sales. This video will also look at the causes of recessions of recessions, such as credit crunches, asset bubbles bursting, poor management, black swan events and increase in interest rates. Finally, we look at the difference between a depression and a recession. This video will use a number of case studies such as the Great Depression in the 1930s, the Great Repression of 2009 and the current repression caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
