TALK TITLE: Where Are You, Who Are You? The Thinning Thickness of The Real
SPEAKER: Andreea Ion Cojocaru (CEO & Co-Founder, NUMENA)
TALK ABSTRACT: Neither what we refer to as “reality” nor “we” or “I” are unified a priori concepts. In fact, reality is constructed and we are constructed within it. The first part of the lecture will define the nature of this process both with and without technological mediation from a phenomenological perspective. The second part will look at physical and virtual architecture in the context of virtual reality. I will argue that the use of VR as mediating technology creates a pluralistic I and redefines the traditional subject-object relationship. The talk will end with speculation on the implications of this conclusion for a near future lived across realities.
