Ready for a new adventure?

After many years as Sab Irene, I decided it was time for change. I’ve been reflecting a lot on when I started YouTube 11+ years ago and where I am now, and so much is different now. I’ve grown and changed a lot, and wanted my channel to reflect that. So, I’m retiring the name and brand Sab Irene so that SAB Official can take off~

During my reflection, I thought about how my relationship with many things and parts of my identity have changed, and that’s what I want this year’s music to reflect. Each month, I’ll release one track that explores a relationship with a different part of my life, and what better way than to start with my relationship with myself.

I had been thinking about rebranding the channel for a lot of 2024, but the moment I knew was very bizarre. I was trying to figure out my music schedule for August through December, and saw that Microsoft Flight Simulator was releasing in November. I thought it might be funny to do a Microsoft Flight simulator inspired track. I shared that idea with a friend, and almost immediately came up with a title, Ready for Take Off. I knew at that moment, this had to be the launch for the rebrand.

I knew nothing about Microsoft Simulator when I started writing this composition, so I spent time listening and dissecting the beautiful, atmospheric music. I wanted to take listeners on a journey like when you fly. I envisioned the track starting in the evening, traveling for awhile before seeing daybreak, and ending back at night again. Because just like in life, it’s about the journey, not the destination. I wanted to capture the journey of flight and those little moments that make you perk up in your chair during a long flight.

I wanted to keep the chill, atmospheric vibe and thought about how to maintain momentum in the track with minimal percussion to convey the feeling of floating and flight. This track was definitely a step out of my comfort zone because I utilized a lot of sounds I had never used before. While I work with synths a lot, the ones in this track were very different, and pairing that with the airy vocals and flute was a challenge. I spent a lot of time mixing this track to get the right balance of high end in different sections and the spacing in each section.

As for the video, I would not have been able to do this without KevinKrust! I had this silly idea for the track and he ran with it. When I just had a title, he had an idea for a music video, and as the composition took shape, Kevin came up with an incredible vision. I love how he captured the various sections of the day and incorporated the feeling of being on a flight in multiple ways. Unfortunately, we had issues with the footage the week before release and didn’t have time to film the video again, so I opted to use a MIDI visualizer to help convey the story that we wanted to tell. I’m grateful for all the time Kevin put into this video, even if you don’t get to see his end product, but it was really beautiful.
