For as long as people have been processing resources, they have by extension also been procuring them. Protecting them. Combining that accumulated industry and technology into increasingly more effective and deadly ways of protecting those industries and resources, and of course, expanding to acquire even more.
It would be almost impossible to survey the rise and fall of all the so-called “great” civilizations, or examine the effects they had on the people who lived in and around them, from antiquity on up to the modern day, without acknowledging the almost inseparable element of the technological progression of organized warfare.
From the earliest city-states, to the chariot-driven armies of Egypt and Greece, to the napalms and smart-bombs of our own generation, the saga of humanity has been saturated with the exploits of warrior-kings, soldiers and champions, tactics and conquests.
On the human level, it is a never-ending “game of thrones”, as mortal men rally forces behind them in order to achieve some objective by way of force. The generals, and commanders, and princes, and kings, carving up the world amongst themselves in the name of glory, or peace, or stability, only to inevitably pass on, and leave the battles to be fought by the next generation. Somehow, no matter how many Alexanders or Napoleons or Genghis Khans are removed from this world either by the perils of war, or just old age, the great “arms-race” that is the history of humanity, never seems to run out of momentum…
On the contrary, it only seems to have now escalated to a speed and scale unlike anything before.
But to truly understand the actual scale, of this “game of thrones”, requires the realization that those mortal men who are viewed as the kings and queens, generals and heroes, of this great epic military advance through history, are in fact in the end, only the pawns, of powers, principalities, thrones, and dominions, in the spiritual realms…
Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in. We were taught by a certain 60’s television show that “outer space” is the final frontier…
I however no longer believe this to be the case.
The Cosmist idea of traveling across unfathomably large oceans of radiation-saturated nothingness in order to colonize distant worlds and star systems, relying upon only our technological innovation to stay alive, is ultimately a fantasy which fuels the very real and pervasive ideology of Transhumanism, right here on Terra Firma.
In many ways the “final frontier” for those who reject the existence and identity of God is not the black void of space conjured up in so many Hollywood basements, but in actuality it is more like a “Trek” into the abyss of seeking that elusive quantum leap in human evolution.
Not only does the delusion that is Transhumanism have the audacity to imagine that we can eventually eradicate disease or even death itself, by way of meddling with our genome, prescribing an ever-increasing regimen of pharmaceuticals and experimental vaccines, and even integrating the human brain with AI, this level of insanity dares to dream that we can use these tools to eventually heal the broken elements of the mind and heart, perfecting not just our bodies, but our fallen human nature as well…
It is a level of idolatry that almost defies adequate description.
This utopian siren song that refuses to be stilled. With each passing day we see ever more promises of radical new technologies just around the corner, claiming to soon make all our physical maladies and psychological scars a thing of the past.
According to the precepts of Transhumanist thinking, there is nothing to be overly fearful of with this quest for the ultimate software update for the human condition. The path to quantum enlightenment is thought to be one that will inevitably have plenty of bumps in the road, but this shouldn’t discourage the bravest of scientists and entrepreneurs from continuing to push the boundaries of human possibility. No, we must press on. Ever forward. If indeed we have supposedly evolved to the point of being able to sequence genes and effectively read the ledger of Darwinian progress in our own DNA, then surely the next step of troubleshooting those bugs still stubbornly plaguing the software is ultimately just another stage of the natural process of everything as well…
If we managed to get this far, having distant ancestors who crawled out of the oceans and slowly but bravely ventured onto dry land, then surely venturing into the unexplored terrain of merging ourselves with machines shouldn’t be something to fear either. If life itself once emerged from the chaotic primordial soup, and managed to eventually adapt itself into such an incredible array of species and intelligences and ecosystems, then why should we have any hesitation now, in collectively bathing ourselves in a modern pharmakea soup? Why object to fast tracking the next stage of our social evolution?
Why question this allegedly noble goal of “curing” ourselves with cocktails of drugs..? “Enhancing” ourselves with genetic manipulation? Or plugging ourselves into the “hive mind” of an AI-controlled society…? Why indeed…?
Perhaps the real answers to such questions are ones that for a lot of people can typically only be accepted, after they’ve personally tasted some of the not-so-super side effects of such Transhumanist experiments.
It is quite a massive paradigm shift, to be sure, to go from putting one’s hope and faith in the juggernaut that is the medical-industrial complex, to realizing that the entire propaganda campaign of Transhumanism is in so many ways little more than one big, disgusting snake oil commercial, and it is not in fact the path to health and happiness, but rather a recipe for transmuting God’s most prized creation into nothing more than a lab rat, for the sake of profit, population control, and even worse, eradicating any reliance upon the Creator Himself, for our healing, restoration, and hope…
