For as long as people have been processing resources, they have by extension also been procuring them. Protecting them. Combining that accumulated industry and technology into increasingly more effective and deadly ways of protecting those industries and resources, and of course, expanding to acquire even more.

It would be almost impossible to survey the rise and fall of all the so-called “great” civilizations, or examine the effects they had on the people who lived in and around them, from antiquity on up to the modern day, without acknowledging the almost inseparable element of the technological progression of organized warfare.

From the earliest city-states, to the chariot-driven armies of Egypt and Greece, to the napalms and smart-bombs of our own generation, the saga of humanity has been saturated with the exploits of warrior-kings, soldiers and champions, tactics and conquests.
On the human level, it is a never-ending “game of thrones”, as mortal men rally forces behind them in order to achieve some objective by way of force. The generals, and commanders, and princes, and kings, carving up the world amongst themselves in the name of glory, or peace, or stability, only to inevitably pass on, and leave the battles to be fought by the next generation. Somehow, no matter how many Alexanders or Napoleons or Genghis Khans are removed from this world either by the perils of war, or just old age, the great “arms-race” that is the history of humanity, never seems to run out of momentum…

On the contrary, it only seems to have now escalated to a speed and scale unlike anything before.

But to truly understand the actual scale, of this “game of thrones”, requires the realization that those mortal men who are viewed as the kings and queens, generals and heroes, of this great epic military advance through history, are in fact in the end, only the pawns, of powers, principalities, thrones, and dominions, in the spiritual realms…

Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in. He brings the princes to nothing; He makes the judges of the earth useless. Scarcely shall they be planted, Scarcely shall they be sown, Scarcely shall their stock take root in the earth, When He will also blow on them, And they will wither, And the whirlwind will take them away like stubble. "To whom then will you liken Me, Or to whom shall I be equal?" says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high, And see who has created these things, Who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, By the greatness of His might And the strength of His power; Not one is missing.
