Captain America: Brave New World
After a slow year, Marvel plans to release three movies in 2025, starting with Captain America: Brave New World. Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) becomes the new Captain America, Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford) transforms into Red Hulk, and Tim Blake Nelson reprises his role as The Leader.
Marvel revealed new footage showing President Ross discussing the Celestial made of adamantium from the Eternals. In the SDCC trailer, Ross addresses world leaders about the Celestial mass in the Indian Ocean, emphasizing its value and potential conflicts over it. He introduces adamantium, a powerful metal surpassing vibranium, hinting at future resource wars in the MCU.
Giancarlo Esposito is confirmed to play Sidewinder, the leader of the Serpent Society. In Marvel Comics, Sidewinder is an economics professor turned criminal with teleportation abilities, forming a powerful criminal organization that often clashes with Captain America. Though his role in the comics is minor, his MCU impact could be significant.
The Serpent Society's reveal ties back to a 10-year-old tease when Kevin Feige initially announced Captain America: Serpent Society, only to later reveal Captain America: Civil War.
Harrison Ford's Red Hulk transformation is featured in new footage, revealing adamantium's role in the MCU. The footage starts with Ross discussing the Celestial in the ocean and countries rushing to claim it. Ross makes a major announcement, introducing adamantium to the MCU. He credits Captain America for the US having adamantium and urges Sam to rebuild the Avengers. Ross then transforms into Red Hulk in front of the White House.
The adamantium reveal in Brave New World is significant as it introduces a long-awaited metal and addresses the Celestial mass from the Eternals. In the comics, adamantium is man-made, but in the MCU, its origin raises questions about its creator. Captain America: Brave New World will explore how humans react to this powerful new substance.
Thunderbolts
Thunderbolts footage features Red Guardian (David Harbour) and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) reuniting, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) in Avengers Tower, and our first look at Lewis Pullman as "Bob," aka Sentry.
The footage shows Yelena finding Alexei in a rundown apartment, Bucky at Congress, and US Agent reading an article about his fall from grace. Yelena infiltrates a facility, meeting US Agent and Ghost, followed by lots of action and Valentina assembling the team.
Thunderbolts is set to hit theaters on May 2, 2025.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps
Marvel’s Fantastic Four movie, officially titled The Fantastic Four: First Steps, begins shooting next week. Set in a retro-futuristic 1960s, Michael Giacchino will compose the score. A drone show revealed Galactus as the movie's villain.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is coming to theaters on July 25, 2025.
Marvel officially confirms Robert Downey Jr. will play Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, replacing Kang the Conqueror after Jonathan Majors' firing. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Doomsday focuses on Doctor Doom and is set for release in May 2026.
Downey's return as Doctor Doom adds emotional complexity, especially for heroes close to Tony Stark. The movie may connect to the Ultimate Comics: Doomsday storyline, with Doctor Doom as the antagonist instead of Reed Richards.
Avengers: Secret Wars, directed by the Russo brothers, will follow in May 2027, concluding the Multiverse Saga.
