This video features the recently-discovered 1998 Beta of Rayman 2, as discussed on RaymanPC here: raymanpc.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1491009#p1491009
The beta allows selecting your weapon: Rayman 2-style energy balls (default) or Rayman 1-style telescopic fist. Here I check out what happens when I use both to smash a cage – they seem to take an identical number of hits, so it's not clear what advantage the telescopic fist was supposed to have… 🤔️
The prototype has no sound or music, but to liven up the video I added in the Tomb of the Ancients tune from the final game as background music. (Maybe "liven" isn't the most appropriate verb with that particular track… 😅️) Unfortunately YouTube's Content ID system mistook the first twenty seconds of it for this: youtube.com/watch?v=zDPXNW4mdZA so I got it to "erase" that, which makes the tune it sound a bit distorted…
To make it run, I used the Windows version of PCem, configured with an S3 ViRGE/DX adapter and Voodoo Graphics set to "Voodoo 2", running a virtual machine with Windows 95. I installed the corresponding Windows 95 drivers and used the MFC42D.DLL and MSVCRTD.DLL files that come with the prototype itself. This is not sufficient to run "Start.exe", but I was able to manually copy the "BinData\morbide_p.dsc" to "BinData\Game.dsc" and run "MaiCFXvr.exe" to play this level.
