Hello everyone!
This is a track I recorded with subversiveasset for the Pixel Mixers Rayman 1 OST tribute album, 'Harmony'. As I have never played a Rayman game (cue the inevitable gasps) I chose this song purely based on its musical appeal. When I listened to the original version of this song, and even with a couple of other songs in the OST, I figured I could make a rock/heavy bluesy cover, and instead of going for my usual style of playing (Gilmour-inspired), I decided to cover this song in the style similar to one of the first concerts I ever watched on DVD; 'Eric Clapton: 24 Nights'.
The intro of the cover is based on the intro to 'Bad Love', which starts a similar way, with Greg Phillinganes playing the keyboard intro (on a Korg M1, no less), as a fretless bass plays over this. As I don't have a fretless bass, I decided to use the Korg M1's 'Fretless' patch, which is a really convincing bass sound considering the age of the keyboard (But hey, it's the Korg M1, the thing was frickin legendary).
After this, the lead guitar fades in, again in the same vein as 'Bad Love'. The wah in this cover is less prominent than in the Clapton song, as I had the wah before the fuzz pedal in the signal chain. The reason for having the wah before the fuzz pedal is because I found that the fuzz accentuated too many harsh frequencies from the wah sweep.
The drum sound is based on the drum sound, again, from Eric Clapton's 24 Nights concerts. The drum sound in the cover was achieved by using both my normal drum VST (MT-Power Drum Kit 2) as well as the drum VST I last used on my collaboration with Hashel05 last year (Sonoma KitCore), with the 'Matt Sorum' kit to fatten the sound of the snare and toms. And reverb. Plenty of reverb.
