Hey people, here's a cover of the Tom Waits track "Get Behind The Mule".
I always really liked this track from the Mule Variations album, but when I heard the "Spiritual" version that came out recently, which was a completely different arrangement from the final studio version, I wanted to do a cover based on that arrangement.
I wanted to get a roomy sound without having to rely on a big reverb plugin (though a reverb was still added in mixing), so I had the DX7 running in parallel to my Jazz Chorus amp for monitoring, and used a couple of pencil condenser mics in an ORTF arrangement (picking up both the DX7 and vocals in the room) which added a lot of depth to the mix. This same technique was used on the lead guitar tracks.
