Hey everyone, here's a cover of the David Gilmour song "In Any Tongue".

This was one that I've had in the back of my mind to cover for a while -- "Rattle That Lock" is still sonically one of the best sounding albums in the last 10 years, and hopefully I've somewhat done it justice in this cover.

I think this is one of the best recorded sounds I've gotten out of the piano in the studio, while I normally use large diaphragm condensers (AKG C414 XLS) in a spaced pair configuration, for this I used small diaphragm condensers (Neumann KM184) in XY for the detail, and the large diaphragm condensers in Blumlein configuration a few feet back to pick up the whole piano and a bit of the room sound, and for a song like this which has sections with only piano, it definitely makes a difference.

The lead guitar tone was the main aspect I wanted to get as accurate as possible (while also not being able to use the same gear as was used in the original recording). I was originally going to try and use both a Big Muff Pi-styled fuzz and a Fuzz Face-styled fuzz in parallel to two amps (both of which Gilmour used in different eras of Pink Floyd), but because of the way the Fuzz Face circuit is designed it generated much more noise in that setup than if it was run by itself into one amp, so I swapped it out with my HM-2 (which Gilmour also used in the 80s Pink Floyd era).
