Rats On Rafts reveal unearthed new single out today ‘Painting Roses (2025 Version)’ from the 2015 ‘Tape Hiss’ sessions, resurfaced now to mark the record’s tenth anniversary. ‘Painting Roses’ was born from the band’s love of dub and their continuous search for new sounds. It felt too different to include on the album and, like many hidden gems, was left buried in the sands of time. The 2025 version of ‘Painting Roses’ pushes things even further out there: an atmospheric psychedelic-soul odyssey that sounds like it was recorded in an oversized, recently vacated garage.
In some ways a precursor to 2025’s ‘Deep Below’, ‘Painting Roses’ acts as the missing link between the rancour and rage of ‘Tape Hiss’ and the caustic verve of their latest album.
David: “We played the song in the middle of our set when we were touring Deep Below and people kept asking what it was. It really is the ultimate bridge between Tape Hiss and where we are now.”
