At Embedded World 2025, Electromaker caught up with James from Raspberry Pi to get the lowdown on the newly released Compute Module 5 (CM5) — a drop-in replacement for CM4 with powerful new upgrades.

🧠 Built around the RP1 chip (same as in the Raspberry Pi 5), CM5 brings USB 3.0, native PCIe, and a more streamlined I/O configuration. It’s designed to fit directly into existing CM4 carrier boards, with added performance and flexibility.

But it’s not just a maker story.

💼 James reveals that 70–75% of Raspberry Pi sales go to industrial clients — from robotics and factory automation to airport digital signage. With no price tiering and wide availability, Raspberry Pi continues to blur the line between prototyping and deployment.

🛠️ Plus, with CM5’s advanced performance in a compact form factor, you can now power full desktop-class applications in a footprint smaller than a matchbox.
