Here is an exposé of a rare marine stove burner conversion created either by the Homestrand Mariner folks, or, by a very skilled craftsman in the past. There are three known examples of this type of modified burner. I have two of them and the two I have are identical. Morphologically, this alcohol burner has been modified and reconstructed to function as a kerosene burner by diverting the fuel flow into a small tube brazed to the underside of the burner skirt. It functions well at all fuel flows and does not fail to vaporize fuel at any flow even in extended simmer. UPDATE 11/4/2018 - These burners have been spotted in a Homestrand Mariner two-burner marine stove marked "Use Kerosene Fuel Only". classiccampstoves.com/threads/homestrand-mariner-kerosene-stove-205-32k.39563
So, my guess on their origin is pretty well spot on. BD
