It has three holes, 3.2mm in diameter at one end. The other end has four holes, two of which are 3.2mm diameter while the other two are 3.6mm in diameter.What size you holes end up with will depend on the fuel and the burner you are using. Try smaller and test, then adjust larger until you get them right for your setup. A Dremel tool can be used to make and enlarge the holes in increments.Having a dual end makes it possible for you to use different formulations of alcohol by simply flipping the restrictor in the burner to the other end. “Green” denatured alcohol is typically almost all ethanol and will burn hotter and require larger holes. Lighting and Running a Svea 123 (noR) BernieDawg Cinema 2023-12-19 | I made a visit today (12/18/23) to a well-known stove discussion forum and was confounded by all the folks asking for help on how to operate this very simple stove. Further, I didn't really feel that all the blah-blah text discussion at the forum was very helpful to the people who were having problems. So... I found this old unpublished video in my pile of "unlisted" YouTube videos and I am presenting it on how you should start up a Svea 123 (no R - ie: no built-in cleaning needle).Note that I do not try to light the stove in a windstorm or even outside. If you are outside, light the stove in a sheltered area out of the wind or hunkered down behind a sunblock or use a windshield.Note that I let the stove idle on low for a bit after lighting to let it build up heat and pressure.The stove in this video has a fairly worn jet orifice so I have raised the flame plate substantially in lieu of replacing the jet to get a close to stoichiometric mix. Ideally, a new jet may be a better choice.Note that I have positive shut-off of the spindle valve. There is no "candling" (when there is a small flame after the spindle valve is closed). Candling is most often caused in the no R stove by a damaged spindle tip from users closing the spindle too aggressively. These damaged spindle tips and the seat in the valve body need to be repaired.In the 123R stoves, candling is most often caused by users/rebuilders setting the cleaning needle too low which prevents the spindle valve from closing all the way. Try the 123R stove without the cleaning needle in place. If you still have candling without a cleaning needle you likely have a damaged spindle tip and/or spindle seat. This should be repaired.It's looking like that would be a good video for me to make as a stand-alone: how to repair spindle tips and seats. I'll see if I can't get that one out soon.At no time should any competent stove advisor say that "candling is common and you just have to live with it". No! That's not at all true. BD Fixes the Taiwan Silent Damper Cap for the British Military #12 Stove BernieDawg Cinema 2021-01-16 | Recent changes to the old tried-and-true Taiwan-made silent damper cap for the British Military #12 have resulted in new cap owners being very dissatisfied with the performance of the new-version cap. Apparently, the original outer caps used on these have become unavailable. The Taiwan seller is substituting outer caps of lesser quality and inappropriate dimensions. In a nutshell... they don't work unless you use the supplied jet with its smaller orifice to reduce the power of the #12 so it will work with the mis-matched Taiwan cap. 😞I volunteered to see if something could be done to modify the Taiwan cap so that it would work properly with the #12 stove without depowering the stove. Though a careful, responsible and attentive stove user might not find it necessary to use the Optimus/Svea SRV fuel cap, the idea on the conversion is that the Optimus SRV fuel cap is the user cap when white gas or DA are used as fuels in order to promote safety. For packing and transport, swap the Optimus/Svea SRV fuel cap for the standard Radius fuel cap.NRV = non-return valve, a one-way valve in the bottom of the pump tube that allows you to pump air into the tank but keeps fuel and air inside from coming back out the pump tube.More detailed video on NRVs right here: youtu.be/b-d_YVVuLaA?t=226Here are the details on the multi-fuel conversion.The alcohol air restrictor tube is made from 17/32" diameter thin wall brass tubing easily findable in good hobby shops or hardware stores. The air restrictor tube should be fitted with four holes at one end and three holes at the other. This allows for changes in altitude. The holes in the end of my tube were made with a #30 (0.1285 diameter) drill bit, though you will need to adjust the diameter of those restrictor tube holes to match your jet and your type of DA (denatured alcohol). A range of #33 to #27 drill bits should get you a tube that will do the job. Obviously some experimentation and trial-and-error is required. Avoid running a stove with a restrictor tube which makes the mix too lean. You'll see your outer silent cap getting red if you get too lean. Enlarge the restrictor tube holes to get a richer mix. Optimus 22 Stove Burn Test BernieDawg Cinema 2020-06-15 | This is a gen-u-wine Optimus 22 multi-fuel stove (not 22B). I'm using white gas in the video. I was clearing out the kerosene residue in preparation for final case assembly and shipping out to the owner. White gas is much easier to dry out of the innards to get a bone dry stove for shipping. Just thought it looked "purty" and needed a YouTube share. 😉 BD

It's a simple, low-tech way to repair these cases in the home shop without the need for expensive welders.Keep your metal absolutely clean. Use wet-dry carbide sandpaper to clean the metal. Weird Enders 9060 White Gas Stove BernieDawg Cinema 2019-12-14 | Here's a little stove that was sent my way some years back - an Enders 9060. It was pretty dirty and covered in crud. Enders stoves were made in Germany and they run on white gas/Coleman fuel/naphtha. I've cleaned and polished this stove up and have discovered some odd repairs and modifications have been made to it. This one appears to have had its fuel feed tube straightened from the factory-standard curve. The straight fuel feed makes for a much larger stove "footprint". Both stove brands work great. They are self-pressurizing, white gas (aka Coleman fuel, aka naphtha) fueled stoves. They use stainless steel flame plates and are roarers from the factory. The 502 was a complete strip, derust, clean, reseal, polish and repaint. Svea 123R Test Post Rebuilding BernieDawg Cinema 2019-11-03 | Here's a spiffed-up example of the sort of video I provide folks when I work on their stoves. It's also a boil test! (Which I generally don't do.) The video shows a correctly working Svea 123R using Crown brand camp stove fuel (aka naphtha). I preheat with denatured alcohol using a Tilley lantern preheat device.
