I had this idea come to me suddenly when I saw a reel on Instagram with this song. I had forgotten how I really liked this song!
I also realized I've never really done a video about Rapunzel and Gothel's relationship other than in my "Meaning of Love" video:

And even then it's more so about Rapunzel and Eugene. So this one's a bit different from my normal Tangled content.
I thought it would be a cool video to do for this song to show the complexity of their relationship, and delving into how Rapunzel must have felt when she realized the woman she lived her entire life thinking was her mother turned out not to be. In the series, we get to see the aftermath of this, for example when she has nightmares about Gothel and has to confront that trauma. I thought that was so important and realistic because something like what Rapunzel went through doesn't just go away when she reunites with her real parents...it was, in fact, a trauma. The scenes where Gothel tells Rapunzel "I love you" for sure has to be super confusing for kids at times, because she isn't your stereotypical villain. Despite being the epitome of greed and narcissism, people are still left wondering if Gothel does love Rapunzel in her own demented way. I say an emphatic NO. That's proven by how the only affection Gothel shows to Rapunzel throughout the entire movie is directed at her hair. Of course Rapunzel did always love Gothel as her mother though, and I think that's why when Gothel died, she probably had so many conflicting emotions that she didn't even have time to process because Eugene was dying. You can see it in her face. But in the series, specifically "A Tale of Two Sisters", we see Rapunzel admit that Gothel never really loved her. She always just loved what she could give her.

P.S. Just thought I'd share my thinking behind the part at 0:42 with the line "this broken record"...I picked that scene where Gothel is using Rapunzel's hair to stay young because this moment with Rapunzel singing the Healing Incantation has probably happened countless times, hence connecting it with the saying "broken record". Just a little explanation xD
P.S.S. I also gotta mention I really enjoyed adding in the rain and thunder/lightning at 0:34! It was fun because I got to add sound effects as well as visuals and it feels pretty realistic IMO~
