Hundreds of protesting students have reached and gheraoed the Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha in Ranchi after a day-long confrontation with the police, and are refusing to leave the premises. Several protesters have said they will not move until the government agrees to their demand for a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC recruitment examinations.
The students had marched towards the Assembly earlier in the day, crossing multiple layers of police barricading. Police used water cannons, followed by multiple rounds of lathi-charge and tear gas, to stop the protesters from advancing. The clashes continued through the day before hundreds of students reached the Assembly.
Police have now asked the protesters to vacate the premises, but the students say they will stay until their demands are addressed.
