“At 42+3 weeks, I went into active labour at 6:30 pm. Breathing through the contractions appropriately 1 minute apart. It just came on suddenly, but intuitively, I knew I was having a baby that day. At 7:30 pm I got into the birth pool, my 22-month-old boy and husband were near me playing. I was transitioning and deep in my body, breathing deeply but silently in my corner. At 8:30 pm my husband took my son to bed, and I kissed him goodnight. Each wave was intense now, and I was frustrated and uncomfortable, feeling myself opening, moving through the pain with my breath. At 8:40 pm my husband came out from my son’s room and I said I needed to poo, I got vocal and pushed my babies head out (was more than a poo). My husband didn’t know her head was out, I was curled over the birth pool with my back to him. My body was resting, and I was preparing to birth her body. There was a rest with no contractions for about 5 minutes with her head out. The next contraction started to come as I whimpered. I pushed her body out with the second push at 8:50 pm - 2 hours and 15 minutes after the very first contraction.
Her cord was wrapped around her neck, so I just unwrapped it and brought her to my chest. I turned around to see my husband there smiling. It was fast, yet so calm, extraordinarily ordinary. She let out a big cry after a few minutes, then I saw that she was a girl. I stayed in the pool for a while until I felt called to hop out. We had tea and chatted about the birth. I was bleeding a fair bit and started to have contractions for my placenta. It was really uncomfortable, and I started going dizzy. My husband gave me homeopathics to treat the bleeding, and after 10 short minutes, I gained colour back, and I didn’t feel faint anymore. I looked down and there was my placenta. We ate watermelon. I showered and got in bed with my baby girl by 11 pm.”
