Pow Wow's kinda cute, he's always trying to impress you. Pow Wow is probably my second favorite RSM tape, right up there next to Play! I love the drum machine sound, the exquisite guitar work, and the awesome country-meets-hard-rock-meets-new-wave songwriting. The Zappa cover here is what first got me into the Mothers! Lots of ink has already been spilled on this tape's brilliance, so instead I'll talk about the fascinating differences here to the digital copy. Tracks 22-25 here are in a totally different sequence. On the bandcamp version, it's I'll See You in Bed-John Lennon-SMGoodies. Here, after Why Can't I Write a Hit is instead a totally new ten-minute field recording collage that for the life of me I couldn't line up with any part of SMGoodies we know. Presumably SMGoodies was an excerpt of a longer tape, and Stevie was known in this time to include experimental recordings as 'bonus tracks' to fill c90 dead space, so maybe I've uncovered lost SMGoodies recordings? After this, comes the "I'll See You in Bed" recording, then the John Lennon death announcement as normal, after which comes yet another field recording collage that, again I could not line up with the digital SMGoodies!
That said, I am not super familiar with SMGoodies, so please educate me if I'm wrong lol. Also uh, I initially exported this rip to Wav and had to re-export to Flac thru audacity (because I love metadata so much), I don't believe I lost any fidelity in this process, but sorry in advance.
