In this video Lakshmipriya presented a composition of Muttusvāmi Dīkṣita in the rāga Maṅgaḷakaiśiki in praise of Goddess Lakṣmī, particularly Raṅganāyaki Tāyār of Śrīraṅgam. This rare rāga is a janya of the 15th mēḷa / rāgāṅga rāga Māḷavagauḷa. This rāga has also been handled by Tyāgarāja in his Divya nāma kṛti-s. In Tyāgarāja’s tradition too, this rāga is a janya of Māḷavagauḷa however, it is very different from the way Muttusvāmi Dīkṣita has handled it in terms of the prayōgas, kāla pramāṇa and various such factors.
