Over two years, and it finally returns! Let it be known work has continued (slowly) since the previous video released!
In short, the following improvements were made:
- All-round better optimisation, including use of wheel inputs
- Improved start slide by @EjayB
- Improved zipper stick sequence by Police
- Improved boost ramp RFH by Police
- New supergrind by @MKWiiTomas
- New supergrind by myself
- Where applicable, matching BKT strats, e.g. final reject road push (which was found by @ramoelleusrs6678 back in 2019)
I spent from September 2021 until December 2021 trying to get a supergrind after the cannon to be faster (youtu.be/JMFG-BJj294). Unfortunately, that didn't pan out, and we were forced to continue with the much harder zipper stick strategy.
I started us off from the beginning with a new start slide in March 2022, and Police and Ancient optimised the beginning to the cannon, then Ancient made a base ghost for the zipper stick. Over the next few weeks, into April 2022, Zappg and Rogue helped optimise it. This being a strategy nobody wanted to help with, and overall community activity plummeting, no work was done for most of the rest of the year.
In September 2022, a task was run on DKS where Thomas discovered a supergrind after the offroad cut. Since he didn't finish his run by the end of the task, he had extra interest in optimising the task as much as possible. Because of this, in November 2022, he realised it wasn't just faster for Special Task IV, but for DKS as a whole. This meant it applied to Task 3 2020.
That same week, a sudden contribution by Rogue sparked activity in the project. Rogue and Police finished off the zipper stick and moved onto the boost ramp. Community activity still being low, this didn't last long, but work resumed in February 2023, when the activity picked up again. Police and I finished the ramp and moved on to the offroad cut. Police and Ancient then worked on the supergrind and made good progress on the moguls. However, the backwards hop at the single cut was proving difficult to recreate.
From February 2023 to October 2023, several attempts were made to perform the backwards hop. In July 2023, I improved the moguls section and made my best attempt at properly matching what Jellopuff did in his run (the jammed trick with a hop off the sloped side of the mound to rotate you significantly mid-trick). This didn't lead to much, and it wasn't until many more attempts later that, in October 2023, marvus was able to get the backwards hop, by approaching the ramp from slightly further left than Police and I had been trying.
Finally past the biggest roadblock, I was eager to finish this track quickly, so optimised the backwards hop and then immediately proved a supergrind upon landing to be faster. Once that was finished, Police and marvus took care of the ending, and the TAS was complete!
Hopefully, after dealing with 2 complex and QM heavy tracks (rWS and DKS), the next task will actually be done quickly this time! If you want to make that possible, join the discord (link is at the top of the description).

Yes you just watched what you think you watched. Big shortcut is possible with 1 mushroom! Huge thanks to NOKKY for revolutionising this section by finding that you can use a high trick on the first hay stack, combined with tricks on the top of the second and third hay stacks to make it back on the track. I then realised the RTA 2 shroom shortcut setup could be used to make the first hay stack reachable in 0 mushrooms, and also found that you could use the pole (which for some reason is trickable) to land from the third hay stack trick boost earlier and also get more boost afterwards.
This is branched off of Marths (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XDwaa_GoOA) old 3 shroom lap (linked in previous BKS), and due to NOKKYs (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoEpHRA-1qb3Rjr2iABblEg) new 1 shroom big SC strat (found in January https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/356185849337085953/800979472039804956/Dolphin_Emulator_2021.01.19 15.40.35.03_Trim.mp4), the second lap would have an extra shroom to use (which would likely be the 1 shroom big SC again, but maybe not).

This is a series I have planned to collaborate solely with Charlie on, and we have about 10 of the tracks already done that just need to be recorded and edited (we started in April and have been putting it off for a while). In order for a track to count as being completed backwards, you must start in lap 1 and travel through all of lap 0 backwards, finishing by reaching lap -1.
The series will be uploaded gradually on both our channels, however once there are videos on both channels, I will set up a playlist so that people dont miss out on uploads. We will be going through the tracks of the CTGP 1.03-1112 update alphabetically, and returning to any past tracks if breakthroughs are made that change the statistics of the progression of the challenge (more on this later in the description).
The main issue with Abandoned Boardwalk is that progressing further behind the underwater section is only possible if you respawn in the beginning of the underwater section. This is not achievable as there is no way to achieve a respawn that far back.
What I attempt to do in this video is follow the offroad around to the back of the track, wallclip across to the OOB area, hug the wall to not get counted OOB (then turn around because the wall ends and I have to get on the other side of it another way), hug the wall all the way to the other side of the big OOB area, ride the edge of the OOB until I get back to where I was at the start of the seam riding process, then attempt to shroom and bounce across to the place where the fence lines up laterally with the rim of the underwater section (where I would be able to hug the wall while I fall and land on the edge of the rim, then ride the rim until I get far enough back to respawn up on the end of the boardwalk).
There are two reasons why this didnt work. First, the way I reach the back side of the fence means I skipped going through KCP 6 (which means KCP region 5 isnt loaded, which includes CP 36 - the one I have to be in to respawn up on the boardwalk). Second (which happens in the video), I cant do the bounce to the place where the fence and the rim meet laterally without getting counted OOB by the water.
There are a few statistics and various versions of this challenge that I will keep track of that allow for a better understanding of whats going on. Below is a list of all of them:
1. Completing the track backwards with the minimum number of respawns, where you have access to a certain amount of mushrooms (a = Infinite, b = 3, c = 2, d = 1, e = 0)
2. Completing the track backwards with the minimum number of respawns, then minimising the number of mushrooms from there
3. Completing the track backwards with the minimum number of mushrooms, regardless of respawn count
Abandoned Boardwalk has failed to even be completable backwards so does not have any statistics to offer:

In this video, I drive a full lap of the custom track Aquania backwards using all 3 mushrooms available in time trials. Because this doesnt actually require any of the mushrooms, I dont use them. In order for a track to count as being completed backwards, you must start in lap 1 and travel through all of lap 0 backwards, finishing by reaching lap -1. We will be going through the tracks of the CTGP 1.03-1112 update alphabetically, and returning to any past tracks if breakthroughs are made that change the statistics of the progression of the challenge (more on this later in the description).
Here, there is 1 respawn that is mandatory to complete the track backwards, that can be done with any amount of mushrooms. The respawns is as follows:

Backstory: This is a series I had originally planned to collaborate solely with Charlie on, however, since starting the project, Jellopuff helped out with the 2nd track, and Charlie stopped doing MKWii TASing, so a lot has changed. I have some more people helping me with this, but videos will be more central to my channel since its way easier for people to understand the progression of the challenge if the progress updates are consistent with the previous ones (the titles and descriptions, the rules of the challenge, the explanations made, etc.). That being said, the only reason for the delay on uploading progress on these is down to my motivation to record them, and since youre reading this, it means I got the motivation to record this specific one. I have 8 more tracks already done that just need to be recorded and edited (Charlie and I started in April and have been putting it off a LOT).
What I do in the video is fairly self-explanatory. I simply drive off the edge of the end of the track, respawn before the cannon, and then drive backwards until I reach the beginning of the lap again. As theres not really ever going to be any lead towards cutting the respawn at the start, this is likely as far as this track will ever go.
There are a few statistics and various versions of this challenge that I will keep track of that allow for a better understanding of whats going on. Below is a list of all of them:
1. Completing the track backwards with the minimum number of respawns, where you have access to a certain amount of mushrooms (a = Infinite, b = 3, c = 2, d = 1, e = 0)

Known improvements:
- The supergrind on lap 1 can be set up and performed about 0.2-0.3 faster (found by Marth) by getting a full stick instead of a huge bounce, like we do on lap 3 here
- The final section of lap 2 can be improved by 0.016 (found by Campbell), which also carries over to the final section of lap 3 (0.016 as well)
- Carrying from Campbells improvement, the lap 3 supergrind can be setup and performed about 0.1 faster (found by Marth), and everything past the fourth turn can be properly optimised (this is the next step, as it allows for more of the run to be completed more optimally, and is what we are focused on in order to get a better TAS out sooner)
About the run:
This is a re-encode of the 2:05.226 prelim TAS from February (https://youtu.be/kCrAYm673KE) that was completed by taking the progress we had made on lap 3 before we had to restart it due to Campbells lap 2 improvement. Of course, the end of the run was done in one attempt without splicing the fastest known ending at the time (which was the end of the 27.346 glitch flap), so I spliced in the inputs from that run on to the end of this run to bring you the fastest known time we would had been able to reach before we chose to restart lap 3 and kill the project.
Looking forward:
In a few months, we will probably be finished with the redo of lap 3 (no promises though, we arent working on it actively right now, so its just a guess), and therefore will be able to release the second attempt at a 3lap, which will hopefully be a sub 2:05 (which is awesome). If were lucky, we might have motivation to redo lap 1 as well after that, which could take until next year to complete. Since lap 1 has at least 0.2-0.3 improvement, if the lap 3 improvements dont allow us to get the sub 2:05, then they will absolutely allow it.

10th - Zaks former NG BKT
9th - Marths current NG BKT
8th - Logans RTA WR (fastest time ever achieved across TAS and non-TAS at the time)
7th - Joke TAS by Bryce, made by editing the end of Logans WR, so that the fastest achieved time was actually a TAS
6th - Slightly more serious TAS by Jellopuff, made in the same way, but by doing decent driving on laps 2 and 3 as well
5th - Joke TAS by myself, made during Ejays and my ultra SC challenge, by performing the lap 2 glitch solely with my own input, and driving a prelim lap 3 (even doing spiral skip)
4th - The first ever attempt at seriously making a prelim lap 3, once lap 2 was finished, which I performed in call with Ando aiming to get a palindrome
3rd - Another significant prelim attempt, made after we had optimised the supergrind on lap 3
2nd - The most progress we ever legitimately made before restarting lap 3, made after almost making it to the staircase lap 3
1st - The most progress we have made so far, and the video you are watching (the chosen mii name is due to the fact that I could have got the 0.110 improvement in February but couldnt be bothered to)
