Nine years ago, a friend asked if we could write music for her film about her journeys to Antarctica and the Arctic. It was our very first time composing for visuals, and, oh, what fun we had! That soundtrack would later earn us our first nomination for the Hollywood Music in Media Awards in 2019.
Could we have imagined back then that one day we’d find ourselves in those distant, icy places we once only dreamed about in music? Antarctica is still on our list... but the Arctic? We've just returned from it!
For the past two weeks, we explored Svalbard - the last stop before the North Pole. And close to the Pole we got: nearly reaching the 82nd parallel, just 938km from the tip of the Earth. We witnessed majestic glaciers, the alien beauty of pack ice, clumsy walruses, curious puffins, polar bears, and the surreal light of the never-setting sun.
Arty came back with nearly 500GB of footage - waiting patiently to be shaped into a documentary, a visual travel blog of our Arctic adventure. That will take time. But for now, here's a glimpse into the frozen world where the Sun never sleeps.
