In this activation at Chino Hills State Park, I work to complete a full Parks on the Air activation using the QMX transceiver at five watts in real time. I call CQ repeatedly, deal with interference, switch frequencies, and test a quarter-wave ground plane antenna mounted behind the car. The session includes park-to-park contacts, long-distance returns from Alaska, Texas, Colorado, South Carolina, Utah, Oregon, and New Mexico, and a running commentary about the conditions, equipment quirks, and the challenge of QRP from Southern California.
