I've been reading the ARRL handbook on vertical antennas. The vertical they discuss is the quarter wave antenna. Specifically, the quarter wave ground-plane antenna. I made it with some wire I had from a 40 meter dipole.
All I needed was a BNC Banana Adapter, which I got at the less famous Ham Swap meet in Los Angeles - Claremont Swap Meet which occurs on the third Saturday at the Granite Creek Community Church. Items for sale are limited to Amateur Radio, electronics, communications, parts, and materials that can be used for such. The event is sponsored by the Claremont Amateur Radio Society. The adapter was only 1 dollar!
