Watch this 1997 Honda Civic EK engine bay shave and paint process. See how we prep this hatchback for the upcoming car giveaway.
This build focuses on the technical side of body work, specifically prepping the engine bay for a clean, shaved look before laying down fresh paint. If you are planning your own Honda Civic EK restoration or just want to see the steps required to get professional results on a budget, this walkthrough covers the primer and painting stages in detail. We show exactly how to address common rust and surface imperfections before the final color coat.
By following this build, you will get a clear look at the labor involved in a full respray and engine bay tuck. Whether you are tackling a Civic hatchback build or just learning the basics of body repair, there are plenty of techniques here to apply to your own shop projects.
Subscribe for weekly garage updates and let us know in the comments if you prefer the shaved engine bay look or a stock setup.

![Well… The K24 Awd Civic Blew Up
Well… we fired up the AWD K-Series Civic for the first time since October — took it for one quick rip down the street… and now we’re back to square one.
Rod bolt stretched, motor windowed. Again.
This was our big dog setup — sleeved block, all the good stuff — and it still didn’t survive a full drive. Should’ve dyno’d first.
Maybe it’s time to let go of this one and simplify things.
