A software professional in Pune, Vidyanand Bapat, was allegedly attacked while speaking to TV9 Marathi about noise pollution and his opposition to DJs and high-volume loudspeakers during Ganeshotsav celebrations. The incident took place on Tilak Road, where an unidentified youth reportedly approached Bapat and slapped him, accusing him of opposing Ganeshotsav and Hindu festivals.
Bapat, a resident of Narayan Peth, had previously raised concerns over noise pollution during a preparatory meeting held by the Pune Municipal Corporation ahead of the 10-day Ganeshotsav celebrations. Following the assault, police reached the spot, escorted Bapat to safety and began investigating the incident and identifying the attacker.
The incident has sparked fresh debate over noise pollution, freedom of expression and public safety during festival celebrations.
