And the internet is flooded with people cheering like this is some kind of strategic masterstroke.

But here’s the problem:

💥 They don’t understand what they’re actually cheering for.

🌍 This Isn’t About “Helping Europe”

One of the biggest myths in American politics is the idea that U.S. bases in Europe exist as some kind of charity project for ungrateful allies.

That’s nonsense.

We weren’t in Germany because we “loved Germany.”

👉 We were there because it protected us.

Forward military presence is about:

logistics
deterrence
response time
intelligence
strategic depth

It’s about stopping conflicts before they reach American shores.

⚠️ The Front Line Was Never the Atlantic

As someone who actually lived in Germany during the Cold War…

👉 This hits differently for me.

My father served in the Pershing II missile program at Wy Kaserne near Ulm.

I grew up in the shadow of that reality.

And the lesson drilled into everyone there was simple:

👉 If deterrence fails in Europe, the consequences don’t stay in Europe.

🧠 The “Bring the Boys Home” Myth

The isolationist pitch sounds emotionally satisfying:

👉 “Stop policing the world.”
👉 “Bring our troops home.”
👉 “Make Europe defend itself.”

But that framing ignores a brutal reality:

💥 Threats don’t disappear because you retreat.

They move closer.

When you abandon forward positions:

response times worsen
alliances weaken
adversaries become bolder
instability spreads

And rebuilding those systems later costs exponentially more in:
💰 money
🩸 blood
🌍 geopolitical leverage

🤝 Destroying Alliances for Political Theater

This is where things become genuinely dangerous.

The message being sent to Europe right now is basically:

👉 “Support every U.S. policy decision… or we’ll abandon you.”

That’s not alliance-building.

👉 That’s extortion diplomacy.

And once allies stop believing American commitments are stable?

💥 Deterrence collapses.

Because deterrence only works if people believe you’ll actually show up.

🐺 The Vacuum Problem

History has shown repeatedly:

👉 Power vacuums don’t remain empty.

If the U.S. steps back:

Russia expands influence
China gains leverage
Europe begins hedging independently
Global instability increases

And suddenly:

👉 America has less control over world events, not more.

Living overseas as a kid fundamentally changed how I viewed the world.

It shattered the idea that:
👉 America is the center of reality
👉 Everyone else is just background scenery

That kind of cross-cultural exposure matters.

It creates:

diplomats
translators
globally aware leaders
people who actually understand allies instead of stereotyping them

When America retreats inward?

👉 We become more isolated
👉 More paranoid
👉 More ignorant

And that comes with consequences.

💸 The “We Need That Money at Home” Argument

This is one of the most common talking points.

But here’s the issue:

👉 Pulling a few thousand troops from Europe does not magically fix American infrastructure.

That savings is microscopic compared to:

the federal budget
defense spending overall
the cost of future instability

This isn’t fiscal responsibility.

👉 It’s strategic self-harm disguised as populism.

The “America First” worldview treats alliances like disposable transactions.

But geopolitics doesn’t work like social media outrage.

You don’t strengthen a country by:
👉 alienating allies
👉 dismantling deterrence
👉 retreating from global influence

You create instability.

And instability always sends the bill eventually.
