PSYONIC develops advanced bionic limbs that are accessible for humans and robots. Their first product, the Ability Hand, is an FDA-registered multiarticulated bionic hand that is the fastest on the market, robust to impacts, and gives users touch feedback. It is also covered by Medicare in the US. As a robotic manipulator, it is currently in use by NASA, Meta, Apptronik, Mercedes-Benz, and some of the top automakers, manufacturers, and brain-mother interface companies globally. This talk will detail the development of the Ability Hand, its current capabilities, and further advancements in bionic limbs that will be coming in the near future.
Dr. Akhtar, CEO and Founder of PSYONIC, received his Ph.D. in Neuroscience and M.S. in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2016. He received a B.S. in Biology in 2007 and M.S. in Computer Science in 2008 at Loyola University Chicago. In 2021, he was named as one of MIT Technology Review’s top 35 Innovators Under 35 and America’s Top 50 Disruptors in Newsweek. In 2024, he was featured on Shark Tank where he made a 3-shark deal.
