Ask any fan of Dark Souls how well they remember Lordran as a location and space, and I bet they'd tell you pretty damn well. There's a reason that a first trek through Lordran is so memorable, and today we explore why that is by looking at cognitive maps, spatial processing, place cells, and brain functions to see what happens in our brains that allows us to picture Lordran and all its areas in such a cohesive way. I also explore some of the ways that the game's design enhanced our ability to picture the world in our minds.
