What’s going on friends — Sam Prentice here, back once again from Prague! 🇨🇿
Last week, I was invited out by Prusa to attend a private press and innovation event, where they unveiled some of the biggest updates we’ve seen from them in years. 🔥
🛒 Buy your CORE ONE L: prusa3d.com/?promocode=SamPrentice
🔗 Open Print Tag: openprinttag.org
From the open-source Open Print Tag system and the all-new Core One L, to the heartfelt Signature Oak edition and even silicone 3D printing on the Prusa XL — this event was packed with surprises, emotion, and genuine innovation. 💡
🔹 Open Print Tag
🧠 An open-source NFC system that lets your printer instantly recognise filament type, colour, and spool weight — no more manual input.
This could be the start of true synergy between materials and machines, and I can’t wait to see who adopts it next. ⚙️
🔹 Core One L
🖨️ The larger, more advanced sibling of the original Core One.
Now with a 300 × 300 × 330 mm build volume, ⚡ faster heating, a 1080p camera, built-in accelerometer, automatic venting, and a hardened steel nozzle — all while switching from steel to aluminium for lighter, stronger performance. 💪
Full review coming soon when my unit arrives! 📦
🔹 Signature Oak (Limited Edition)
🌳 Originally seen at Formnext and thought to be a dig at a competitor, it became something far more personal.
Only 250 units will ever be made, crafted from 100-year-old oak and inspired by Josef Prusa’s childhood memories of working with his father in the woodshop — a touching tribute to craftsmanship and legacy. ❤️
🔹 New PrusaSlicer Update
🧩 Now featuring project tabs! You can work across multiple projects without juggling separate windows — another reminder that Prusa is still hard at work, refining what they helped start. 🔁
🔹 Silicone 3D Printing on the Prusa XL
🤖 Using a dual-tube contact-mix system, this setup extrudes real, usable silicone — an elastic, heat-resistant polymer that stays stable under extreme conditions.
It began as a chocolate-printing experiment 🍫 but now opens doors to practical use cases like seals, gaskets, and soft-robotic components.
✨ Overall, it’s an exciting time for Prusa and the 3D-printing world.
Whether it’s open-sourcing material recognition or blending tradition with technology, this event shows that Prusa’s innovation engine is still very much alive. 🔥
