Aldor Emerging Artist Award winning guitarist and singer François-Félix Roy (Festival Trad Montréal 2022) is a new and refreshing face rising in the Québécois traditional music scene. His unique approach combines the liveliness of traditional music with the nuance and subtlety folksingers are known for.
From spirited war songs to introspective laments, his skillful guitar playing is empowered by the vibrancy of traditional French-Canadian foot percussion. Instrumental reels and waltzes, reimagined through delicate fingerstyle arrangements, will delight the audience with their elegant melodies.
Currently in his early twenties, François-Félix already possesses a remarkable artistic maturity, and his charming presence inspires an easy connection with the audience. His talent was lauded outside of Québec by Young Tradition Vermont, which awarded his outstanding performance. He also took the first prize at the local finale of emerging artistic contest Cégep en Spectacle and performed solo on the main stage of Québec’s largest traditional music festival Mémoire et Racines.
Through his craft, François-Félix reveals the diversity of songs of old by throwing a spotlight on both their poetry and their humor. You can expect a compelling show filled to the brim with wit, finesse and authenticity.
Proposition de concert
I propose a concert containing lyrical songs spanning from dynamic to peaceful as well as instrumental fingerstyle musical numbers. My material stems from traditional repertoire, and the arrangements are my own. My wide musical range allows me to offer a diversified and complete solo performance.
My musical and cultural background and teaching experience also allow me to prepare and lead workshops on Québécois traditional music (songs, guitar, foot percussion) and repertoire.
