Frequency separation divides an image into a high frequency layer containing sharpness and definition information, and a low frequency layer containing brightness and color information. Combined with effective compositing, frequency separation can add precise layers of refined sharpness and even enhance weak color by giving an image more color information. It can improve any image and is especially useful in fleshing out images that need more integration time.
